The weather station is more reliable. :(((( Oh well. Starting now the temperatures will be more accurate. Tasks Planted four goumis on the east fence edge (two carmine babies and two sweet scarlett adults) Applied leaf compost around the pawpaws Watered everything Put the veggie starts out on the porch, intending to transition them outside, in the covered raised beds Received Fedco seed order Received notification that the three pawpaws will ship next week Ideas Apply leaf compost around all the other plants in the orchard I think I am going to hold off on planting the Matsumoto, Jiro, and Hana Fuyu persimmons. Internet is saying that they are hardy to zone 7. I also might uproot the hachiya in the front yard and put it in a container to sell. Still no sign of edamame Tasks Got 8 bags of leaf compost from the mulch yard Picked up two new tools: a warren hoe and a garden axe-digger-thing Started clearing space for a staircase down the bank. Dug up some gnarly roots Del San Jaume Gran showing roots Added moisture to all of the figpops that felt dry and aren't showing roots. I did this by submerging the bags (with small holes in them) into water for a few seconds. We'll see if that helps. Hopefully, I didn't ruin any chances of rooting. Tuesday, March 21, 2023 High: 70.7 Low: 18.3 Sunny Observations Dug down towards the bottom of one of the garlic plants. The bulb area was soft and mushy. I think it's too early Signs of root growth on a Victoria figpop. Many of the pops feel dry. I really should add some moisture in there. Tasks Pulled some weeds (buttercup) Had an initial conversation with a person from a local solar company Moved some of the legacy fence wood over to the in-ground bed's perimeter Cleared out some more kudzu from the bank. One small pile at a time. Monday, March 20, 2023 High: 64.8 Low: 12.8 Sunny Observations Significant cold damage to the figs in the greenhouse. It'll be interesting to see if/how they recover. It smells excellent in the greenhouse, like figs. JH Adriatic stands out as one of the most cold-hardy. There was hardly any leaf damage on the young plant. Started to dig out edamame because I was curious if they were still there. I saw signs of germination. It's been a while! I think it's just been too cold for them. They like 60 degrees min, whereas peas can take 40 degrees. I think I'll wait a few more weeks, but if there are no signs of life by then, I'll plant some new seeds.
