High: 64.8
Low: 12.8
Sunny

Observations
  • Significant cold damage to the figs in the greenhouse. It'll be interesting to see if/how they recover.
  • It smells excellent in the greenhouse, like figs.
  • JH Adriatic stands out as one of the most cold-hardy. There was hardly any leaf damage on the young plant.
  • Started to dig out edamame because I was curious if they were still there. I saw signs of germination. It's been a while! I think it's just been too cold for them. They like 60 degrees min, whereas peas can take 40 degrees. I think I'll wait a few more weeks, but if there are no signs of life by then, I'll plant some new seeds.
Tasks
  • Got engaged :)
  • Watered the beds (after the hose unfroze)
  • Checked on all the plants
  • Received a package from Burnt Ridge (four goumi plants)
  • Ordered three grafted Pawpaws from Edible Landscapes
Ideas
  • I had an idea today about specializing in figs that can survive in zone 6. Focusing on varieties that are proven to be cold-hardy. Offering protection solutions as well. Like a niche within a niche. JH Adriatic would be on that list.

w00t!

Saw these at Ledges Park -- Mayapple?

Goumis from Burnt Ridge

Root alert!

The young plants in the covered bed remained unharmed

Mulberry leaf damage

Edamame sprout (?)

Noticed some rotting at the root of the Kieffer pear

This burlap wrap seems to be affective at protecting flowers
