2023-06-28: The Return of the Ground Cherries

Image
Wednesday, June 28, 2023 High: 81.1 Low: 58.4 Sunny Productive morning. Weed whacked, noticed the ground cherries are coming back up where they were hidden along the south fence. Also noticed some blackberries. Harvested strawberries (very good!), and blueberries. There are a lot of wild blackberries all over the place. Harvested a lot of the stuff in the raised bed that has been infected with cabbage worms. I steamed the veggies and juiced the celery (with watermelon, lemon and ginger). Watered the potatoes. Ground cherry Ground cherry and blackberry Ground cherry The sweet potatoes slips are growing Tiny Tim looking promising Celery

2023-06-22: Pruning for the Future

Image
Thursday, June 22, 2023 High: 69.2 Low: 59.0 Light Rain Excellent morning in the garden. Did some (drastic, at times) pruning of the fig trees, and it felt great. I think I did a good job of defining their future structure. Some of them seemed like they had way too much foliage above than the roots could support. I mean, some of the leaves were larger than the height of the tree.. haha. I also gave them all a dash of the slow-release fertilizer. Even the in-ground figs.  I've been doing a lot of pruning lately. It's one of my favorite tasks. A couple TODOs: - Take cutting from Smith - Add tags to the container figs (the tape labels are starting to fade) They all got pruned Pulled weeds in the strawberry patch perimeter Took down the peas today. Thank you for your service!
