2023-04-30: Woke Up Feeling Peaceful

High: 66.9
Low: 48.2
Light rain in the morning, then partly cloudy

Tasks
  • Transplanted some Sweet William flowering plants from the west bank to the orchard. As I'm writing this post I just realized they are biennial plants, which I just learned means that they end their life cycle after two years. So this dividing and transplanting experiment might be moot.
  • Put up some shade cloth on the west side of the greenhouse roof. I cut the original 23' x 16' sheet into a smaller piece that could fit over that section. It was difficult to reach the top center, but I was happy with what I did and am curious to see how it affects the daily high temps.
  • Purchased two more pounds of white clover from Jesse Israel. Also witnessed them selling a blueberry plant for $85 and a hardy wiki for $75.
  • Mixed around the compost bins using the pitchfork.
  • Transplanted the raspberries that were on the south side of the greenhouse into 10G fabric containers. It'll be much easier to manage that space, especially if I ever need to do maintenance on the greenhouse.
  • Replaced the Desert King fig that was in the ground on the south side fence, with another Autumn Brilliance Serviceberry. It's too close to the wild cherry trees, but I plan on cuttings those down this winter.
  • Brought Tulsi and the figs inside for the evening.

Another Autumn Brilliance in the ground (replaced the Desert King fig)

Whoa

This is what a strawberry start looks like. There are a ton of these in the yard.

Cool

The raspberries on the south side of the greenhouse are now in containers, and I am happy about it

This is where the Sweet William is. I wonder if the previous owners planted it.

Clover germinating in the exposed clay

Clover germinating on the west side bald spots

Strawberries spreading across the surface of wood chips!

~5 foot Bermuda grass pull

Noticed a lot of fungi this morning

Seen at walmart :) Organic.

Compost rotated

The rain has been great for the clover path

Sweet William (?) that I've been transplanting.

It was that kind of morning

I noticed two honeyberries that have turned purple. I ate them both.. heh. Couldn't help it. Far from ripe.
