2023-03-16: Going Away for the Weekend
Thursday, March 16, 2023
High: 79.8 (don't think it was actually this high, need to check sensor)
Low: 18.5
Mostly Sunny
Observations:
- Tried to assess damage on the flowering fruit trees but not sure how to do that. They seem ok.
- Getting everything prepared for being away from the weekend was actually a lot of work. I see the value in having automated systems!
- There was some fresh compost in the pile in Leicester! I saw it as we were driving out of town. I'll have to go back for more when I get back. It would be good to create a cache or organic materials.
- Heard Neal Peterson say that pawpaws love compost and fertilizer (horse and cow manure) applied to them.
Tasks
- Filmed, edited, and published a video about cold damage to the figs in the greenhouse
- Transferred 5 figpops to containers
- Gave all figs a thorough watering (too thorough? we shall see)
- Pruned off some of the leggy veg starts
- Watered the veg starts and put them in a container with water. The intention is to let them soak it up from the bottom. I put them next to the window, instead of under the light (which I don't have a timer for) -- Hopefully they'll be ok
- Watered the greenhouse figs thoroughly -- Hope it doesn't get too hot and humid in there
- Watered the beds, Hayley did the strawberries and peas
- Placed the indoor figs at the foot of the bed so they don't get as intense solar exposure
- Tested the PH of the soil from the piles (Weaverville on the right, Leicester on the left). They are both at about 7
