High: 87.9
Low: 49.7
Sunny

Observations
  • That high temperature seems a little too high, but it was a beautiful, sunny warm day.
  • So many things are coming to life.
  • No signs of life on the in-ground figs. I-258 is not looking great, and I'm surprised Chicago Hardy hasn't started any buds.
Tasks
  • Went to the Weaverville mulch yard with Hayley this morning and got about 7 bags of compost. Almost got stuck in the mud, but Krsna helped us out!
  • Planted three rows of Green Arrow peas in the in-ground bed. First, the rows were cleared of any wood chips, then we put about 3-4 inches of compost on top of the natural dirt, then we planted the seeds into the compost and lightly packed them in before giving them a light watering.
  • Removed the tarps from the beds that have the arched trellis. Then cleaned up the beds by softening the surface with a rake and adding some fresh compost. Then we planted more peas (Sugar Magnolia and Mammoth Snow Pea) next to the trellis. I also planted two rows of Midori Giant Edamame in the remaining space of the bed. I added some leaf mulch to the areas surrounding the planted seeds, but not on top of them.
  • I lightly watered the covered bed that we planted seeds into recently, which had condensation on it from the sun. I left the top open slightly throughout the day.
  • Added fresh potting soil to three indoor hanging plants. These have been neglected for about two years!
  • I "figpopped" the 10 cuttings from Dan Louie while sitting outside after work.
Tomorrow
  • Not sure, but I have an idea to plant some things to surround the greenhouse. I am thinking of raspberries on the south side and perhaps a structured bed for strawberries on the east or west, and maybe more figs.
