Cloudy
Woke up this morning to a winter storm alert. Winds up to 40 MPH. I'm concerned about the greenhouse, so I did what I could today to try to help it survive the storm tonight. It's supposed to start raining or snowing around 7pm, which is the time I am writing this.
I took out all the windows and applied clear sealant tape around each edge. The idea is to prevent moisture from getting in the slots of the panels, so they don't get discolored over time. The layer of tape actually made them fit more snugly in their slots. They I got these roofing screws and put four of them in the well-known gap where wind can get in and lift them up. I think it was a big improvement, but those things are still not very solid.
I created anchors on 5 out of 6 lines (I ran out of rope!). I will need to redo these, but at least it's something.
The WD-40 I applied on the door frame makes a world of difference. The doors are opening and closing effortlessly now!
I went to the tool library and returned the ladder and tamper. I picked up the tiller again (after a failure last time), and plan to use it to break up the dirt mound next to the greenhouse so I can create a flat area for the container fig orchard.
I also got the cheap, small greenhouses out of the crawlspace storage and put them in the greenhouse. I'm going to set those up and do a temperature check. It's been disappointing to see that the temperature in the greenhouse is usually less than 1 degree warmer than outside.
